Elections to the International Narcotics Control Board (2012-2017)

Today on Wednesday 27 April 2011, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held elections in New York for the International Narcotics Control Board for a five-year term beginning on 7 May 2012 a (Beginning of the May session of INCB).

From among 5 candidates nominated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Council elected:


From among 15 candidates nominated by Governments, the Council elected the following candidates (shown in alphabetical order):

  • David T. Johnson (United States)

  • Jorge Montaño * (Mexico)

  • Ahmed Kamal Eldin Samak (Egypt)

  • Werner Sipp (Germany)

  • Raymond Yans * (Belgium)

    Elections were held by secret ballot.
    Members of INCB serve in their personal capacity, not as Government representatives.

    a As stipulated in Article 10 para. 2 of the 1961 Single Convention : "The term of office of each member of the Board shall end on the eve of the first meeting of the Board which his successor shall be entitled to attend."
