On 10 July 2014, Dr. Lochan Naidoo, President of INCB, met with H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, President of the 68th session of the General Assembly, at the margins of the General Assembly High-level meeting on the Review of the Progress Achieved in the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases, which is taking place from 10 to 11 July 2014 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.  During the meeting, Dr. Naidoo stressed the importance of, inter alia, availability of essential medicines for treatment of pain and illness, and the need to prevent and treat drug abuse and addiction, particularly among youth.  The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss preparations for the 2016 General Assembly Special Session on the World Drug Problem.
