General Ahmed Kamal Eldin SAMAK

VIENNA, 25 October 2018 - It is with deep sorrow that the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) announces the passing of General Ahmed Kamal Eldin SAMAK, former Member of the Board.

                           

As a member of the International Narcotics Control Board from 2012 to 2017, General Samak made a valuable contribution to international drug control.

Born in 1950 and a national of Egypt, General Samak graduated with a Law and Police Licence in 1971. He worked in the field of drug control for more than 35 years, until becoming the Minister Assistant of Police and Head of the Anti-Narcotics General Administration of Egypt. General Samak also served as an independent adviser in the field of drug control and crime. He received a first-rank badge of honour on the occasion of the police festival (1992), conducted numerous missions regionally and internationally, and represented his Government at intergovernmental meetings, such as the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, prior to being elected in an independent capacity by the Economic and Social Council as a Member of the Board. General Samak also served as a Member of the Board's Standing Committee on Estimates in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The Board is grateful for the contribution of General Samak to its work and for his fine personal qualities.

The Board wishes to pay tribute to the memory of its dear colleague and will observe a minute of silence at the upcoming 123 rd session of the Board.
