INCB commences 128 th session

1 September - The International Narcotics Control Board has opened its 128th session in Vienna. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 128 th session, originally foreseen for 4 to 15 May 2020, had to be postponed. For the first time, INCB is holding its session in a hybrid format - consisting of Board Members participating in person at the Vienna International Centre and online from around the world.

During the session, which is taking place from 1 September to 4 September 2020, the Board will review the compliance of Member States with the three international drug control conventions and the functioning of the international drug control system, with a view to ensuring the availability of internationally controlled substances for licit purposes, while preventing diversion and abuse. The Board will continue to work on the preparation of its annual report for 2020, which will include a thematic chapter on drug use among older persons, and will consider civil society perspectives on the issue. During the session, the Board will also meet with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Ms. Ghada Fathi Waly.
