GRIDS Organizes Twinning Mission for Focal Points from Lao PDR and Viet Nam
7 - 11 November, Ha Noi, Viet Nam - The International Narcotics Control Board's (INCBs) Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme organized a Twinning mission for Drug law enforcement officers of Lao PDR to take place in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.
10 Lao officers from Lao Customs Department, Counter-Narcotic Police Department, and Lao National Commission for Drug control and Supervision of Lao Ministry of Public Security attended the first two-day training (7 - 8 November) on awareness raising, safe-handling and interdiction as well as information exchange through INCB global communication systems. The training was also attended by 5 Vietnamese officers from Counter-Narcotic Police Department, and the General Department of Customs.

The meetings also provided an opportunity to enhance international cooperation between the two countries by sharing information and intelligence on incidents involving the trafficking of these substances.

Mr. Long Nguyen, the GRIDS Regional Technical Officer for East, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific presented the latest global and regional trafficking trends of dangerous substances, including NPS, synthetic opioids, and related chemicals with the INCB proprietary intelligence tools - Project ION Incident Communication System (IONICS) and GRIDS Intelligence HD. At the end of his presentation, the Japanese representatives expressed their interest in learning more about the INCB intelligence tools.
The Board's Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme and Project ION and OPIOIDS Project support Governments' capacity to respond to changing trafficking, illicit manufacture, marketing and sales of NPS, non-medical synthetic opioids and fentanyl-related substances by providing real-time communication, facilitating information exchange and intelligence development that interdict distribution of dangerous substances.
