International Narcotics Control Board postpones 128th session; ongoing support to governments for international licit trade in controlled substances continues

VIENNA, 3 April (United Nations Information Service) - The International Narcotics Control Board is postponing its 128th session, scheduled to take place from 4 to 15 May 2020, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Alternate dates for the session of the drug control treaty monitoring body are being identified.

The President of the Board, Cornelis P. de Joncheere has reassured governments that "the Board continues to support competent national authorities in the functioning of the international system for licit trade in controlled substances and helping to ensure the availability of and access to controlled medicines".

In addition to providing technical support through its Vienna-based secretariat, INCB has created a webpage with guidance specific to the COVID-19 pandemic: https://www.incb.org/incb/en/coronavirus.html

Competent national authorities can share information and ideas on contingency measures in the dedicated forum within the International Import and Export Authorization System (I2ES).

Competent national authorities are encouraged to contact the INCB secretariat in case of any need for assistance.
