OBITUARY

VIENNA, 19 June 2008 - It is with great sadness that the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) takes note of the demise of Professor Boonsom Martin , M.D., former INCB member (1992-1997).

Dr. Martin had a postgraduate advanced training in Tropical Medicine and a long-time service as hospital, medical school and university official, in particular as Head of Department, President and Chairman of the University Board. He was Director-General of the Department of Physical Education and Chairman of the Committee for Prevention and Publicity of Drug Abuse for 22 years.

Dr. Martin held many senior positions in the Government of Thailand including that of Minister of Education in 1982 and Minister of Health in 1984.

Since 1993, Dr. Martin was a member of the Standing Committee on Estimates and became Second Vice-President of INCB and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Estimates in 1995.
