INCB mission to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

VIENNA, 23 September 2019 - From 17 to 19 September 2019, the Board conducted a mission to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to discuss progress made in the implementation of the three international drug control conventions to which the country became party in 2007. A previous INCB mission visited the country in 2006. The mission was organized by the Ministry of Public Health.

The mission was carried out by Dr. Wei Hao, First Vice President of the Board, who was accompanied by Ms. Beate Hammond of the INCB secretariat.

 

Meetings were held with the Vice Minister of Public Health and senior officials from the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of People's Security and the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly. The delegation visited the Kim Man Yu hospital in Pyongyang as well as a site where opium poppy is cultivated for medical purposes. The delegation also met with the Acting Representative of the World Health Organization Country Office.

The findings of the mission will be discussed by the Board at its 126 th session scheduled to take place in November 2019.
