Breaking Barriers: Empowering the Next Generation of Women in Enforcement through the INCB GRIDS Programme

Vienna, 8 December 2023 - The INCB Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme organised a virtual dialogue for over 80 women focal points working in enforcement on inclusive and gender-responsive approach to tackling drug-related challenges for the future. The aim was to deepen engagement and empowerment of women law and regulatory officers in order to strengthen and diversify the next generation of leaders.

Officers shared their experience and knowledge with regards to the respective cultural dimensions that influence their lived realities as women in enforcement context. Participants discussed the various challenges that women face when working in the law and regulatory enforcement context. As more women choose careers in enforcement, they not only break barriers but also bring unique perspectives and strengths to the field. Empowering women officers by providing equal opportunities for leadership roles, training, and career advancement not only enhances their professional growth but also contributes to a more balanced and inclusive approach to enforcement.

The Board's Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme and Project ION and OPIOIDS Project support Governments' capacity to respond to changing trafficking, illicit manufacture, marketing and sales of NPS, non-medical synthetic opioids and fentanyl-related substances by providing real-time communication, facilitating information exchange and intelligence development that interdict distribution of dangerous substances.

The GRIDS Programme is strongly supported by the governments of Canada, Japan, and the United States. This event was made possible through generous support from the Government of Canada's Global Affairs Canada, the Government of Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United States Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
