INCB GRIDS Facilitates Working Visit for Viet Nam Counter Narcotics Police Officers to Japan to Share Experiences and Intelligence and Enhance International Cooperation

Tokyo, Japan, 11-13 June 2024 - The International Narcotics Control Board's (INCB's) Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme organized a three-day working visit for 5 officers from the Counter Narcotics Police Department, Viet Nam Ministry of Public Security, to Tokyo, Japan.

The delegation had meetings with representatives of the Narcotics Control Department, the Drug Abuse Prevention Center, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan Customs, and the National Police Agency to gain experience in the prevention and interdiction of new psychoactive substances (NPS), synthetic opioids, and other dangerous substances.

The meetings also provided an opportunity to exchange information and intelligence on actual incidents related to the trafficking of these substances. The Vietnamese delegation also expressed their wish for enhanced international cooperation / assistance on drug law enforcement between the two countries.

The Board's Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme and Project ION and OPIOIDS Project support Governments' capacity to respond to changing trafficking, illicit manufacture, marketing and sales of NPS, non-medical synthetic opioids and fentanyl-related substances by providing real-time communication, facilitating information exchange and intelligence development that interdict distribution of dangerous substances.
