INL-Funded GRIDS Programme Supports USPIS and CBP in Training Mexican Officers to Combat Synthetic Drug Trafficking

Miami, Florida, 15 August 2025 - The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), through its Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme, joined the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to deliver specialized training for Mexican frontline customs and postal officers.

Held during the week of 11 August 2025, the training aimed to strengthen Mexico's capacity to prevent the trafficking of synthetic opioids, new psychoactive substances (NPS), and other dangerous substances before they reach North America. Twenty Mexican officers received hands-on instruction and live demonstrations of the GRIDS operational tools, including the IONICS Suite, GRIDS Intelligence Platform, and the AI-powered SNOOP system, enabling them to act immediately on real-time intelligence.

In addition to training, GRIDS advanced collaboration with the private sector through the Conference of Latin American and Caribbean Express Companies (CLADEC), promoting information-sharing and risk mitigation in the shipment of parcels.

This initiative highlights how INL-funded support for the GRIDS Programme delivers tangible results: enhancing regional security, safeguarding U.S. communities, and strengthening operational partnerships between Mexico, the United States, and trusted private sector actors.

The Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme and Project ION and OPIOIDS Project operate under the International Narcotics Control Board's unique Article 35 (1961) treaty mandate that supports Governments' capabilities to exchange information on trafficking, illicit manufacture, marketing and sales of NPS, synthetic opioids, fentanyls and related chemicals, by providing real-time communication, and capabilities to facilitate information exchange and intelligence development with the aim to interdict distribution of dangerous substances.
