The framework for the international control of precursors is established by the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988, especially article 12 of the 1988 Convention. Additionally, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) and its subsidiary body, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), have issued a number of resolutions reiterating the provisions and expanding the framework of control of the 1988 Convention.
